Addictions are behaviors contrary to your well-being. They may seem beyond your control. But you do have control. Any addiction can be overcome by reframing your life excluding the addictive behaviors.
Many want to be seen as victims. Somehow unable to overcome external forces that rule their life. This is nonsense. They want sympathy and a free pass nobody else gets to escape their responsibilities.
The solution is Kick-In-The-Ass therapy. Not group BS excuse sessions to validate and affirm their self-righteous, holier-than-thou, martyr saintlike victimhood. STFU.
They scam us by saying they are powerless and deserving of a special status that absolves them from life’s challenges. I don’t think so.
The best way to help these poor unfortunate victims is to deny them any recognition as innocent. Hold them accountable. Don’t feed their addictions with handouts.
You may want to be seen as good and virtuous giving them money and kindness. Your virtue holds them in captivity. Every dollar given perpetuates evil.
A true story. Driving in to San Francisco I would inevitably see a line up of loser moochers. Each claiming an intersection on Van Ness like they bought a franchise.
Each of our all-so-innocent victims of society proudly displayed their little homemade cardboard signs imploring the gullible to give them free money. They avert their eyes as they pass out the spare change as if the moocher’s condition is contagious. I looked deep and I saw contempt and loathing.
My favorite sign was “God Bless”. I proceeded to give them what they asked for. I lowered my car window, stared them i the face, and stated loudly and clearly that “God told me to tell you to quit extorting money from the misguided idiots driving by.” The grifters were stunned.
Nobody in all-so-liberal SF would dare to hold them accountable. I was not from there and couldn’t care less. Was I uncaring and despicable? Maybe, But I did I gave them respect that they could do better. Everybody else assuaged their guilty consciences and felt all warm and fuzzily virtuous. They could go about lying and cheating their way through life after balancing things out with a measly dollar bill.
If a leg is injured and gangrene sets in the only way to save a life is to amputate. That is not easy or pretty. It is fact. Instead of false hope and assurances, grab a saw.
So here is a partial list of so-called addictions and the corresponding fix:
Alcohol – Stop drinking and stay away from those that do.
Drugs – Don’t take the and stay away from those that do.
Tobacco – Stop smoking, take nicotine pills for a few weeks to lesson withdrawal symptoms, start exercising and eating healthy, substitute eating a carrot for your oral fixation.
Sex – Find another outlet for your energy, exercise, volunteer work.
Gambling – Take those dollars and pt them in the bank, stay away from casinos.
Work – Get hobbies and spend more time with family, volunteer to help others.
Money – When is what you enough? Never. The finish line for greed or insecurity recedes into the distant horizon as you approach. Instead try giving money away to deserving people that need a helping hand.
Shopping – Drive to a nonprofit to volunteer instead of the mall. Take out the unopened bags of crap you bought and put them in a donation box. Get a meaningful hobby.
Screens – Video
Eating – Eat smaller portions slowly, consciously. You will feel full earlier before you overeat. Take long walks instead of a second helping of buttery mashed potatoes. Start exercising every time you feel compelled to visit the old ice box. Stare objectively at your fat ass in a full length mirror. This is called aversion therapy.
Say this as you gaze at your disgusting body: ” I did this to myself, it is all my fault and nobody else’s. There is no excuse to live like this. It is self-destructive. I want to live a long and healthy life with vigor and joy. ”
You thus enlist your subconscious mind, which being always vigilant and obedient, will try to force you to eat less. This is why diets can’t and never do work. Every pound loss by starvation and willpower results i two pounds gain as your body tries to save itself from starvation. It’s hardwired in your DNA and cannot be overridden.
